BEST OF 2006 (eagerly awaiting either or both of my brothers’ picks)
And a second opinion (my little brother & entertainment expert)...his pics are bold. His comments encouraged me to add a little to my picks. Feel free to send in your own.
FILM
(not in order)
1) The Departed: Fun Bostonian mobster/CIA tale. It was laughable at times, but hey, I like a laugh--intentional or not.
2) Dreamgirls: Ah, the drama! Hudson, Murphy, Knowles, Glover...all awesome.
3) Little Miss Sunshine: Amazing actors, well-written screenplay
4) The Devil Wears Prada: summer surprise, great performances from Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt
5) Dave Chapelle’s Block Party: amazing musical performances, great stuff from Chapelle
Tom’s ARE in order.
1) Borat-- Funniest movie I have seen in a long time.
2) Little Miss Sunshine--Good from start to finish
3) The Departed--Best movie of the year if it wasn’t for the cheeezy ending.
4) Cars--Cute
5) Beerfest-- It was a sad year in movies my friend, but this was probably the best surprise to me, it’s up there with Super Troopers
TELEVISION
1) Grey’s Anatomy--Nothing can ever come closer to my heart than Felicity (part of the joy was from the fact that no one watched the show)--or Sex and the City--but it’s pretty close. The writing is not 100% there, but it has its moments. Also, I cry almost every episode. Tears=quality
2) 30 Rock--Tracey Morgan (man, I miss Brian Fellows) is amazing. Alec Baldwin is great in everything these days.
3) Oprah--Always part of the top 5. Nothin’ but love.
4) MTV’s Made/True Life--Two different shows, but I love them both. They are edited really well & provide me with a documentary fix (low brow, but documentary all the same).
5) My Boys (stop shaking your head. It IS funny & on TBS!)--The banter between the guys is really great. The baseball metaphors are really terrible. I’m just excited that TBS still exists.
1) 24 and Prison Break--They both come on back to back, so it's just like one show.
2) Entourage--Jeremy Piven is a genius.
3) The Office-- keeps getting funnier and funnier
4) Weeds--Reminds me of the good old days when mom used to deal pot for a living
5) 30 Rock and Friday Night Lights--Both new and both good.
SINGLES
1) Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable”--This song does NOT get old. I will listen to this for an hour non-stop on my runs. IT is incredible.
2) Gnarls Barclay “Crazy”--WOW, song of the summer. I enjoyed all the covers just as much.
3) Panic At the Disco “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”--This is another great running song, and I like watching these guys live. It makes me feel like I’m a emo girl, which I’m not.
4) Christina Aguilera “Ain’t No Other Man” (for about 2 weeks it was really good, remember???)--I can’t listen to this anymore, but the first time I saw her sing it--I was VERY happy.
5) Lily Allen “Smile” (Gutter mix)--wait, I’m changing this to my new favorite “Absolutely Nothing”
Didn't listen to much music, although i did discover how good the Ricky Gervais Podcasts are, so thats it
Oh, yes, Tom---I love these podcasts, too--and for once , discovered something before BOTH of my brothers.
